B&B Italia embraces digital transformation with GMDE

B&B Italia's Digital Transformation project came to life with the aim of renewing and enhancing the company's commercial and communication strategy, an undisputed leader in luxury interior design. The strategic breakthrough was realized with the introduction of the Product Information Management (PIM) system, which marked a turning point in product information management, becoming a fundamental lever for innovation and company expansion.

Where We Left Off

Since 2018, B&B Italia had been using a DAM solution and felt the need to integrate it with a PIM to optimize the management and publication of products across various communication channels. In 2020, under the guidance of Daniele Lanfranchi, IT Director, the company collaborated with GMDE to implement a PIM, alongside a revision of the company website on Magento2.

The goal was to integrate and synchronize data from ERP, PLM systems, and the existing website, thereby improving publishing times and communicative effectiveness on B2C and B2B channels. The collaboration also addressed the increase in traffic caused by the downloads of technical drawings in 2D and 3D, introducing a Content Delivery solution that optimized content distribution and improved the user experience for professionals like architects and designers.

Project Evolutions

The Product Information Management (PIM) proved to be a fundamental strategic lever for B&B Italia, allowing the company to realize broad-scope project integrations in collaboration with GMDE and other suppliers.

The adoption of this solution allowed B&B Italia to start a series of significant innovations, including:

  • Integration with E-commerce Platforms: One of the first moves was the integration of the PIM with various e-commerce platforms. This allowed B&B Italia to expand its presence in global markets, facilitating the purchase of its products by an international clientele and simultaneously improving the online shopping experience.
  • Use of an InDesign Plugin: The implementation of an InDesign plugin significantly accelerated the production of printed catalogs. Thanks to this innovation, the creation times of promotional materials were halved, allowing for more frequent updates and greater consistency with updated product information.
  • Virtual Tour Platform: In collaboration with another provider, B&B Italia developed a "virtual tour" platform that uses PIM data to offer a virtual visit of the showroom. This solution has made it possible for customers to explore the exhibition spaces remotely, enriching the customer experience with an unprecedented level of interactivity and immersion.
  • Storytelling and Electronic Pricing: The introduction of storytelling has made it possible to narrate the stories behind the products, adding emotional and cultural value to the shopping experience. Concurrently, the launch of an electronic pricing list made product prices easily accessible to retailers, agents, and sales staff, simplifying the sales and distribution process.
