From fragmented data and assets to an omnichannel, multilingual ecosystem

The company

Founded in 1970, Elettrocanali is an Italian excellence in the production of components and systems for electrical installations, operating in over 70 countries worldwide. After more than five decades of success built on quality and reliability, the company faced an inevitable challenge: consolidating thousands of technical sheets, images, and price lists scattered across different platforms into a single, unified flow capable of meeting the demands of an increasingly global and discerning market.

The challenge of growth

With a constantly expanding product catalogue and customers worldwide, Elettrocanali realised that the manual processes for creating catalogues, product sheets, and updating data and assets had become a bottleneck. Delays, duplicate revisions, and inconsistent content were no longer acceptable if the goal was to maintain high standards of quality and speed.

A partner for transformation

This is where GMDE came into play.
Chosen for its proven expertise in digital transformation projects, GMDE supported Elettrocanali in designing an infrastructure that integrates PIM, DAM, and Smart Indesign (for automated layout generation) to work in synergy. This new centralised ecosystem—structured according to the international ETIM standard and compliant with the BMECat format—enabled the elimination of redundancies, the versioning of every document, and the automation of multilingual production of technical catalogues, price lists, and product sheets.

Early results

Just weeks after go-live, Elettrocanali’s teams reported:

  • Faster catalogue releases, with a significant cut in layout time.
  • Complete content consistency across all channels—from the online store to distributor portals.
  • Instant access to up-to-date files, with no risk of errors or duplication.
  • Operational teams are freed from repetitive tasks.

These are just a few of the benefits brought about by technological innovation, which has made Elettrocanali even more agile, data-driven, and responsive to new market challenges.

What’s next?

Among the potential next steps is the integration of advanced AI-based features—such as multilingual product description automation—to further reduce publishing times and lower localization costs.
