Gender equality in the workplace is now one of the most important topics in the economic and social debate. Beyond reducing the so-called gender gap — the disparity between men and women across different areas of social and economic life — its aim is to promote fairer and more sustainable development models.
According to the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report, at the current pace it could still take more than one hundred years to achieve full equality worldwide. In Italy, the issue takes on particularly significant dimensions. Female participation in the labour market remains among the lowest in the European Union, and many women still face barriers in their professional careers, often linked to cultural and organisational factors. These include deeply rooted stereotypes influencing career choices, the higher prevalence of part-time work among women, and difficulties in balancing professional careers with family responsibilities. Overcoming these barriers requires cultural change within companies as well. Welfare policies, work-life balance initiatives, parental support measures and more flexible organisational models are essential tools for encouraging a more balanced participation in the labour market.
In recent years, an increasing number of companies have started investing in inclusion, diversity and female talent development policies, recognising that fairer working environments can contribute not only to employee wellbeing, but also to organisational competitiveness. Companies that promote inclusive workplaces tend to achieve greater ability to attract and retain talent, improved organisational climate, increased productivity and stronger corporate reputation.
Within this context, the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification, plays a central role. It is a tool that helps companies structure gender equality policies and processes through a system of measurable indicators and continuous performance monitoring.
GMDE’s journey, launched in 2024, is part of this broader direction, with the aim of fostering an increasingly inclusive workplace focused on equal opportunities. In July 2025, the company successfully passed the surveillance audit required by the UNI/PdR 125:2022 certification, also achieving an improved assessment score compared to the previous year. This result demonstrates GMDE’s concrete commitment to strengthening corporate policies and practices dedicated to gender equality.
The project forms part of a wider vision focused on valuing people and building a professional environment in which skills and talent can thrive regardless of gender. Over recent months, GMDE has carefully monitored the six evaluation areas required by the certification, which include:
This continuous analysis and improvement process represents an important step ahead of the next annual audit and helps strengthen an organisational model that is increasingly focused on inclusion and the enhancement of diversity.
For GMDE, investing in gender equality means not only responding to an ethical and social principle, but also enhancing different skills and creating the conditions to address market challenges more effectively, building an organisation that is stronger, more attractive and more sustainable over time.
The project was supported thanks to the contribution of the European Union and other related National Authorities
